The Week Ahead 20 August 2021

20 Aug 2021

Dear parents

With enormous pleasure, I welcome you all to the start of a new academic year at Wellington.

25th August sees the beginning of a year-long series of events marking the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the school, and we could not be going into our second decade here in Tianjin in better health.

Your children will all benefit from the stunning refurbishment of the library - now rededicated as the Founder’s Library – as well as the upgrades to the theatre sound and lighting, the sports hall lighting and the major landscaping projects across the school grounds.

Younger pupils will find a brand new Nest waiting for them. The interior has undergone a major refit in time for our anniversary, and there is now an exciting outdoor learning area for pupils in reception and year 1 on the site of the old tennis court.

You will have already seen the record-breaking public examination results and university destinations. Once again, for a fifth consecutive year, Wellingtonians in years 11-13 have continued to set new standards of academic achievement. More than half of the grades at every level are A* (and A for AS Level); almost 75% of all results are A* or A. I know that you will all join me in congratulating these young people and their teachers for these spectacular results. Our pupils’ achievements are an inspiration to their younger peers; high expectations and academic ambition are the keys to unlocking the dreams of the future.

As a result of the recent announcements regarding further Covid-19 containment, the school will continue to prioritise the health and safety of all our community. I would ask you to read the guidance provided (below) so that you are fully aware of the preventative methods in place across the school.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents once more for their support for the school. Keeping our community of 600 pupils safe, thriving and learning throughout the coming academic year is our commitment to you as stakeholders in Wellington. I look forward to working with you all to ensure that our 10th anniversary year proves a fitting milestone in the school’s development.

Best wishes

Julian Jeffrey

As you will appreciate, the situation is dynamic, and we will communicate any changes as quickly as possible. I look forward to welcoming our pupils back to school over the coming week.

COVID-19 Measures for the New Term

According to the latest government policy regarding school reopening, we have updated the school entrance policy (below). Many thanks for your cooperation in reading the information carefully so that we can all make sure of the safety of the campus.

People management

  • We will require 14-day tracked statistics for staff, subcontractors, pupils on temperature records and any symptoms.

  • Both Green Health Code and Travel Code will be checked at the gate on the first day of school and every Monday. If a pupil's travel code indicates that he/she has travelled to a city with a medium to high-risk area, please provide, on entry to the school, a negative nucleic acid report valid within 48 hours of the start of the school year.

  • Daily temperature reporting - morning and noon for non-boarders and additional evening check for boarders

  • All people entering and exiting the campus need to wear a mask. All bus pupils and staff need to wear a mask on the bus.

  • A survey will be sent out to all parents; please submit the survey to us before August 24th, noon time.

Security Control

  • Parents are not permitted to enter to the school according to the latest government policy. As a result, we will stop offering the basement parking to parents temporarily as well.

  • The pick up procedure will be the same as last term for Nest and Senior School, although without entrance to the campus.

  • Junior School parents will pick up pupils outside the Wellington Arch. For all parents who need to enter the campus, besides checking the green code and travel code, we also need to check the vaccination gold shield on your Health Code or the vaccination certificate as per the new government policy.

  • There continue to be strict controls for visitors to the school. These are subject to the Master/Bursar's approval.

Cleaning and disinfection

  • All hand sanitisers and liquid soap will continue to be available around the building

  • All air conditioner units will be cleaned and disinfected before the school starts

  • Air ventilation and disinfection implementation will strictly follow the government policy
