A New Chapter Begins丨Celebrating the Graduating Class of 2024
What an extraordinary year it has been again for our Year 13 graduates. 32% of graduates received offers from G5 super-elite universities. Nearly 40% secured places at universities ranked within the top 20 by QS World Rankings, with 50% reaching the top 50.
Pupils are holding offers from The University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London, King’s College London, The University of Edinburgh, The University of Manchester, and The University of the Arts London (ranked #1 in the QS arts rankings). Notably, we have received our second offer from The Bartlett School of Architecture, which is ranked #1 in the world for Architecture and Built Environment and remains #1 in the UK for the tenth year in a row in the QS Subject Rankings 2024. Our pupils are also holding offers from Seoul National University (majoring in Medicine), The University of California Los Angeles, New York University, The University of Toronto, The University of Sydney, and The University of New South Wales. Graduates will also attend top universities in Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Hong Kong SAR.
We are so pleased that once again, Wellingtonians will go on to study a wide range of subjects at university – a testament to the broad education and the excellent teaching and learning that they received at school. Our pupils will be going on to the next phase of their education to study subjects as diverse as Education, Architecture, Mathematics, Economics, Animation, Law, Sociology, Nursing and Physiotherapy.
The breadth and quality of these offers are a testament to the hard work and perseverance of all pupils, parents, teachers, and university counsellors here at Wellington College Tianjin. Every Year 13 pupil has benefitted from a bespoke programme of support throughout the application process, focused on the needs of the individual and ensuring that they all have access to their ‘best fit’ university destinations.
The graduation ceremony on the 31st of May was held in The Seldon Theatre. Senior School pupils were joined by our distinguished guest of honour, Mr David Mallinson, School Affairs Board, Governor. We were delighted that Ms Joy Qiao, the Founder and Chairman of Wellington College China was able to join us personally this year, and she had some motivational words to say for the 2024 graduates. Our Head and Deputy Heads of College gave a wonderful speech in three languages and delivered a very moving tribute to Mrs Sabio from some of her former pupils.
There was music in addition to the speeches and presentation of the graduation certificates. Amy, Ethan and Ms Chen performed a very moving rendition of ‘Invierno Porteño’ by Piazzola and the entire Year 13 cohort performed ‘We’re all in this together’ from The High School Musical.
After the ceremony, we made our way outside where we were once again entertained by our very own Wellatonics and other performances. The sun shone and we ate some nice food whilst graduates and their teachers mulled over their time here at Wellington. Then it was time for the Head of College, Hanson and his two deputies, Amy and Daned to cut into the enormous cake and so was the end of a wonderful celebration.
From the Master
Behind these achievements stands my deepest thanks. As the Master, I am grateful to Ms Joy Qiao, the Founder and Chairman of Wellington College China. Her visionary leadership allows us to turn educational philosophies into reality, making dreams come true. I would like to thank the Board of Governors, such as Mr David Mallison, who has consistently supported our school's growth. My sincere appreciation also goes to every parent for your trust in us. Together, we form a powerful team of diligent teachers and ambitious pupils, striving to set a precedent in education. As our pupils venture into the broader world, I hope they carry forward a sense of gratitude and the ability to see others' worth, confidently stepping toward better versions of themselves. Here's to a bright future for each of our families!
We hope that all our graduates will be happy and successful as they embark on their unique journeys, and we wish them all the best of luck as they move on. Remember: Once a Wellingtonian, always a Wellingtonian. Be You. Be More!
