The Power of Fostering a Positive Home-School Relationship

29 Dec 2023

As educators, we understand the importance of establishing strong connections between home and school. This partnership is crucial to ensure that pupils receive the best possible support. This term, we have elected outstanding parent representatives in the Nest, Junior School, and Senior School to acknowledge their long-standing support and cooperation. The awards presented are the Outstanding Parent Volunteer Award, Parent Engagement Award, Parent Ambassadors Award, Parent Volunteer Hero Award, and Family Engagement Award.

Dr Yang Yang, the Master of Wellington College Tianjin, stated, "To enable parents to gain a deeper insight into their children's school life and to express gratitude to those who have supported us throughout the year, the Home-School Communication Team has planned parent participation activities and consulted with all parties to select our parent role models. We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to these parents."

The selection of exceptional parent representatives is not only a recognition of their efforts but also a recognition of the importance of home-school co-education. These parent representatives play an active role in their children's learning and life. They are not only concerned about their children's academic performance but also their physical and mental health. In addition to giving love and support to their children at home, they also actively take part in school activities, which help in the growth and development of their children.

In addition, the school also organised two "Quiz Night" events to allow new parents to get to know the school and each other better while laying a solid foundation for their children's education.

The first event was designed for Nest and Junior School parents. Teachers prepared a series of interesting questions on world history, geography, sports, games, entertainment and school-related knowledge. Parents were divided into groups to compete and learn from each other.

The second session was dedicated to new parents of the Senior School. Parents sang songs and played guessing games together. Although it was the first time they met each other, they seemed to know each other for a long time. Finally, everyone took part in a heartwarming session – My Dear Children. Each parent had to go and find a picture of their child's hand and share a family story. This session allowed everyone to get to know each other and their children better.

The home-to-school relationship is a long-term endeavour that requires the joint efforts of both parties. By working together, we can create a positive and supportive learning environment that will benefit children for years to come. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen the Home-School connection, so that every family can participate and jointly support the growth of children.
