John Dewey, the American philosopher, psychologist and educational reformer, once said: Education is life itself. Schools, according to Dewey, are not just places where we learn facts and numbers, but also places where we learn how to live. In other words, the point is not only to learn a certain set of skills but also to realise one’s full potential, and use what you’ve learned for the greater good.
At Wellington College Tianjin, pupils are encouraged to interact with the curriculum and take part in their own learning. They can advance their understanding and their social roles far more effectively. This would allow them to become more engaged with both what their learning and with society as a whole. Whilst never losing sight of the importance of academic endeavour and achievement, we provide a wide-ranging activities programme that reflects our holistic approach to education. With the development of technology, we can acquire knowledge and information from many sources. However, we believe that hands-on experience and self-exploration are effective ways to learn. Club activities, sports competitions, cultural performances, and social practices, all inadvertently allow children to exercise and grow. This is what drives the school's continued efforts to create more opportunities for pupils to collaborate and grow.
In March, we will have our teachers from the Nest, Junior School, and Senior School talk about how our pupils find their passion and learn to develop new skills through pupils-centred school activities.
Every Thursday at 8:00 pm, our Wellington experts will share educational topics and take you on a journey of growth and development. Scan the QR code on the poster to follow the official school WeChat account and reserve your seat for the Live-Streaming Podcast.
