Graduation Ceremony 2018
04 May 2018
Our annual Graduation ceremony took place on the 25th April 2018. We were delighted to welcome our distinguished guest Jean-Paul Churchouse OW, Managing Director, Private Wealth Management (Goldman Sachs, Hong Kong), who delivered a speech which truly resonated with our pupils. He spoke passionately about the values instilled by his Wellington education and how these had given him the grit, determination and self confidence to make his mark in the world of finance. "The graduation ceremony this year was a great success," said a parent of Year 13, “The school held a grand party which will surely leave a wonderful memory for the children. Thanks to the Master and teachers for their efforts!"
The evening opened with a dramatic and rousing arrangement of Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ by the school choir and, as well as excellent individual solo performances on clarinet and violin, we were touched by the Year 13 Choir’s beautiful rendition of ‘A Million Dreams’. Special thanks must go to Miss Gossedge for once again bringing together these memorable performances in such a short space of time.
Our graduates are going on to study at some of the most prestigious universities across the world, including New York University, Durham, Warwick, Penn State, Sheffield, Royal Holloway, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Central Saint Martins School of Art. We are also confidently awaiting the results of our graduates who have applied for top Korean universities such as SNU and Yonsei.
These young Wellingtonians leave us with the values instilled in them during their time here with us; they are well equipped to progress on to the next stage in their lives and we wish them all the very best as they leave us, safe in the knowledge that they will forever be part of the global Wellington family.
Our vision at Welingtonis to educate pupils to thrive in an ever-changing global society, and there are few occasions more gratifying than seeing a young person’s passions being pursued at the world’s finest and most progressive universities and higher education institutions. Our pupils have worked tremendously hard to achieve their offers and we are very proud of them.
Congratulations need to be extended in a variety of directions. The invaluable support of a truly professional and motivated teaching team who have guided pupils through the complex process of finding the right courses and destinations for them; the tireless support of their parents in communicating proactively with their teachers and counsellors, and most importantly, for working with the College to bring out the very best in their children academically.
Finally, our huge congratulations go to our graduating pupils. In persevering to achieve their set goals they have learned lessons in humility, independence in learning and research, vital soft skills in communication, teamwork and the importance of trusting others. Their achievements are even more admirable, giving that some of them are non-native English speakers and they are competing with students from all over the world. Our vision states ‘we aspire to create a caring international community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills to thrive in an ever-changing global society. These are the pupils that we are sending out into the wider world.
